PLAYING HIDE AND SEEK WITH TOURISTS ON A GREEK ISLAND

By Elsa, travel blogger and Instagramer @elsa_koalasfamilySunbathing with a 360 view of the deep blue ocean contrasting with white washed houses, and pink bougainvillea... Santorini is an island like no others; hiding a lot of surprises.  Commonly known as a honeymooner's refuge, it also turns out to be a fun family-friendly gateway. In fact, you might be surprised but that's where we chose to take our first trip as a family of 4. If you like getting lost in winding streets, jump from one stair to the next with your kids (who decided it was the best way to walk around), play on black sand, eat pita sandwiches or fresh fish in front of the sea, Santorini is for you!We spent a week on this Island, in the little town of Oïa. During the day, we walked around the island and on the beaches, napped in the afternoon and enjoyed our little village at the end of the day. We tried as much as possible to enjoy the sunset and dining in front of the endless sea despite the numerous tourist who invade the island at that time of the day.[supsystic-gallery id=120]Little Voyageurs' tips:

  • What to take?

Keep in mind that this island is not super family-friendly so you need to bring some distractions to keep the kids busy. We took magazines, toys and enough diapers to last a week (there are diapers in Oaia's pharmacy but for 15 euros a pack!). I am not sure about baby jars and milk, so I'd advise you take yours.  We managed to jam everything between our 2 backpacks and carry-ons...No checked suitcases, the key for an easy trip!

  • Where to stay?

We loved our Airbnb : Danai house, a little house with an breathtaking, two sofas beds in the entrance, a separate bedroom, a little kitchen and a bathroom. The host Maria is very helpful and the ratio price/quality is very good as Oïa, is quite expensive.

  • Where to eat?

For take away :  Pito Gyros serving delicious greek salads and "souvlaki gyros". Pelekanos has a gorgeous view, s nice staff and delicious moussaka and greek yogurt. Vitrin Cafe is a good place for breakfast, they serve very good "crêpes". Otherwise we liked Medevio for bread and cakes, and Lodza for milkshakes.

  • When to go?

Spring or Automn to avoid the heat wave in the summer.
